Lobi Stars ended their campaign in the Caf Champions League on a winning note on Saturday as they recorded a 2-0 win over ASEC Mimosas in their final group game at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.

The Pride of Benue redeemed their battered image with a victory over the lethargic Ivorian club.

A first half brace from Sikiru Alimi ensured that the Nigerian champions bowed out of the competition with their heads high.

The Pride of Benue were already down and out even before the kickoff against the visiting Ivorian team, but they had given their word that they would be gunning for victory regardless of their hopeless situation.

After a minute of silence was observed for victims from the Ethiopian Airline crash, Tunisian referee Haythem Guirat got the game underway and expectedly it was the home team that started like a house on fire.

However, it was ASECs Toure Armed that had the first real chance of the game but his shot just outside the box sailed across the face of goal to the relive of goalkeeper Olufemi Kayode.

After that early scare, Lobi Stars shot into the lead as Matthias Martins with a cutback pass located an unmarked Alimi in the box and the striker poked in the ball from close range.
